St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church’s athletics ministry is focused on teamwork and self-discipline centered around our Catholic faith. The program is dedicated to excellence in athletics and is committed to supporting spiritual, physical, mental and emotional growth through our team sports. The ministry encourages the growth of team and parish spirit, and the improvement of physical coordination and fitness of our parishioners.
Sports
Basketball Since 2003, St. Mary Magdalene has supported one of the largest Catholic basketball programs in the Upstate of South Carolina – even before our church had a gym of its own. Representing more than 300 players, St. Mary Magdalene has supported more than 30 youth and mens basketball teams. In 2022-23, St. Mary Magdalene became a member of the Greer CBA.
Volleyball Since 2023, St. Mary Magdalene added a spring volleyball program as part of the Greer CBA. These teams are coed high school/adult. In 2023, our church had two teams participate.
Tennis Avis Witowski, a parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, operates Freedom Tennis LLC. The flexible tennis league provides players with a 6- to 8-week schedule, and the opponents set their own day, time and location to play each match. With divisions for beginners, intermediate and advanced players, the league offers categories for ladies, men, doubles and mixed doubles. Freedom Tennis is offered in the spring, summer, fall and winter for players 19 and up. All matches are played in Greenville County.
Running* Established in May 2012, the Running Club was formed as a fellowship group to support members of St. Mary Magdalene with their health and fitness goals. Comprised of runners of all ages and abilities, members provides one another with proactive encouragement and faithfully represents St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church at area running events.

Softball† Established in 2000, St. Mary Magdalene supports both mens and coed softball softball. Men typically play in spring, summer and fall, whereas the coed team plays during the summer season. Both teams play in church divisions.
