What is the St. Mary Magdalene Running Club? Established in May 2012, the Running Club was formed as a fellowship group to support members of St. Mary Magdalene with their health and fitness goals. Comprised of runners of all ages and abilities, members provides one another with proactive encouragement and faithfully represent St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church at area running events.
Why should I join the Running Club? Anyone can run a race. What this program is designed to do is bring parishioners closer together. To take an activity we share and grow closer in Christ. When you participate, you not only look to improve yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually, but you help guide and inspire your teammates as well.
How does it work? The Running Club shares helpful tips on nutrition, cross-training and injury prevention. Members can find running partners of equal skill level and/or participate in group runs. Throughout the year the Running Club identifies races to participate in as a group. Before or after a running event, the Runners Club organizes social gatherings for its membership. Pre-race meals get you ready for your event, and post-race activities celebrate your latest achievements. It's all part of being a dedicated, proactive, engaged club for runners of all levels.
Is the Running Club part of a league? No. The Greenville Track Club, which coordinates many of the races in Greenville County, has a league called Corporate Shield. It is an employee-based program. Since St. Mary Magdalene's Running Club program includes church members and not just employees, our club does not qualify. And that's OK. Our goal isn't to score points, but to encourage and support one another in our endurance running goals.
Does the Running Club offer group runs? Yes, although the time and location changes frequently. As a member of the club, you'll be notified of group run opportunities.
I'm an avid walker. Can I join? Absolutely. The Running Club welcomes walkers to represent St. Mary Magdalene at area running/walking events.
Can children participate? Children are welcome as long as they are participating with a parent at all times.
Does it cost to join the Running Club? Each runner is responsible for his/her own entry fee to area races. The club may also choose to collect fees for moisture-wicking fabric running shirts and other miscellaneous cost.
Does the Running Club pay for race registration? No. Each runner is responsible for his/her own entry fee to area races.
What is the official Running Club shirt? Each member of the Running Club gets an official jersey/shirt. Made from a moisture-wicking fabric, the Running Club's shirt has St. Mary Magdalene's name and logo on the front, and on the back, the church's vision statement, "Called by Christ. Growing in Faith. Serving with Love." The shirts are bright white with burgundy lettering.
I'm not a runner, but I'd like to order a shirt. Can I? Yes. Shirts are $20 each. Contact St. Mary Magdalene's athletic director for an update on your order status.
