Game Day Setup & Teardown Instructions

Arrival Time
Please arrive 30-45 minutes  before the first game to do a full setup.

Lockbox Location: Hallway by stage. Code: 1492 (the year Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue). This contains keys for goals, bleachers, and athletics closet.

Media Room: Code 1206 (date of the building's ground breaking)


Setup Checklist
  1. Set up Scorer’s Table with scoreboard equipment and scorebook.
  2. Place 10 chairs per team beside the scorer’s table (line up first chair with top of 3-point arc and work toward endlines).
  3. Place 2 chairs against the wall for officials to the right of the Scorer's Table.
  4. Place HOME (Stage Side)  and AWAY signs on wall.
  5. Raise side goals to ceiling height.
  6. Ensure main goals are set to 8 or 10 feet as needed.
  7. Pull out the bleachers for spectators. Place two additional chairs on both sides of the bleachers for elderly.
  8. Set the orange first aid kit at the scorer’s table.
  9. Identify locations of additional first aid kits, defibrillators, and ice.
  10. Place at least one trash can in the gym.
  11. Pull out the ball rack behind the scorer’s table. Fill it with appropriate size balls.
  12. Retrieve game balls (BLUE BAG), score equipment and scorebooks from Athletic Closet or Media Room (Code: 1206). Teams should warm up with other balls labeled SMMCC – not the game balls. 
  13. When each game ends, fill out the score log-in the RED notebook.
  14. Ensure officials complete their form.
  15. After all games have concluded for the day, photograph the scores and ref forms, and text to:
  • Frank: 864-326-8740
  • League: 864-350-1452

Teardown Checklist
  1. Follow everything in reverse.
  2. Clean up, return all equipment, and sweep the floor.
  3. Turn off the lights and ensure no one remains in the gym.
  4. Check bathrooms before leaving. 

Scorebook & Scoreboard Basics

Scorekeeping Guidelines:
  1. Coaches fill out rosters before the game.
  2. Score entries:
    • Field Goals = 2
    • 3-Pointers = 3
    • Free Throws = 0 (cross out if made)
  3. Track team & individual points, checking quarterly.
  4. Monitor fouls:
    • 5 per player
    • 5 per team per quarter (then double bonus)
  5. Record timeouts: 4 per team.
  6. Each game requires:
    • 1 person for scoreboard
    • 1 person for scorebook
      (K4–1st grade you may display score, but do not record score)
  7. Log final scores in red binder.
  8. Let referees fill out official forms.
  9. If you work the last game, send score & form photos to Frank and League.
  10. Report any ejections, technical fouls, or unusual events.​
